Family Camping
The Project:
Dada ABC approached me to illustrate story called “Family Camping”. This was to be an update of an existing illustrated story that was done years prior. The client wanted a more modern approach that could appeal to kids with an affinity for cartoons on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.
The Process:
Included below are initial concept pieces I generated before creating the final art. Much like developing an animated piece, I created storyboards for the story to help make the feedback loop between myself and the client smoother. I also created a model sheet of the family to define the look and feel of the characters, and establish a consistency across the images. And again, the model sheet was a great way to receive by-in from the client before creating the final art.
The Deliverables:
The final illustrations below include a painted, dry brush style of rendering that provides a more timeless feel to the story. This dry brush look and feel was achieved via Photoshop and the illustrations were vector based, created in Adobe Animate. The client was happy with the update and felt that it met the initial brief of making the story feel more modern.
